Chromatography Resin

Chromatography resin is a critical component in chromatography, a method used for separating and analyzing complex mixtures. Resins like C18, C8, and silica-gel are used as stationary phases in various forms of chromatography, including liquid and gas chromatography.

C18 resin, also known as octadecylsilane, is highly hydrophobic and is commonly used in reverse-phase chromatography to separate non-polar compounds. C8 resin, with a slightly shorter hydrocarbon chain than C18, offers somewhat less hydrophobicity and is also used in reverse-phase applications, but with different selectivity characteristics.

Silica-gel resin, on the other hand, is a polar stationary phase used in normal-phase chromatography. It is effective in separating polar compounds and is known for its high surface area and robustness. Each type of resin offers unique characteristics that make it suitable for specific types of analyses and separations in chromatography.
